Cogeneration in Alberta

From Wiki: "Cogeneration (also combined heat and power, CHP) is the use of a heat engine or a power station to simultaneously generate both electricity and useful heat. It is one of the most common forms of energy recycling."

Cogeneration is a great idea when the initial soucre of energy is from a green and renewable source. When the Alberta government espouses to be providing funding to clean energy, they actually mean Carbon Capture and Storage to coal fired power plants, which is neither clean nor green.

The Alberta government has given $2 Billion towards Carbon Capture and Storage for coal fired power plants – instead of servicing an archaic and polluting resource, that money could have gone towards building the sustainable and green renewable energy industry. Currently there's 5,972 MW of coal capacity online in Alberta at 7 different generating stations.

Alberta has also the distinction of being the only Canadian jurisdiction currently building a new coal-fired power plant, Keephills 3 (450 MW).
